After-hours coffeeshops for you to idle with some pleasurable nibbles to offer.

Updated: Feb 12, 2022

After a long day, you've decided to get some Teh/Kopi to unwind and end the day properly. Unfortunately, high-end cafes rarely operate until late at night. Unsure of where to chill, not to worry, we've listed down a few Kopitiams for you to decide on.

1. Al-Jilani

Ask any of the students studying in LaSalle or NAFA, they would know what we're talking about. Located right outside Hotel G, it is a popular destination for many to get their prata fix especially when you’re around the Bencoolen area.

Open for 24hrs a day, Al-Jilani will never fail to satisfy your cravings for a good prata. Along with a good view of the buzzing streets, you can enjoy your food with some hot tea. At times, you’ll get to witness some luxurious cars speeding through too!

2. Niqqi’s The Cheese Prata Shop

Situated at the supper stretch known by most NUS students, here lies a variety of supper fixes. However, our personal favorite is Niqqi’s Cheese Prata stall. One can never deny the quality and frequency of food being ordered with the ever-lasting delivery riders who keeps on collecting their orders while we were having our meal. Usually packed at night, Niqqi cheese prata will never fail to attract its customers to enjoy its food. As their name suggests, you'd have to try the cheese prata!

Our personal favorite, however, is the plaster prata and the milk prata. The plaster prata - crispy on the outside while soft and chewy on the inside accompanied by a runny egg that flows fluidly upon cutting them open is something you should try. As for the milk prata, a good supper and dessert combination right before you head to bed!

3. Kampong Glam Café (KGC)

Located at Bussorah Street, KGC never fails to attract its customers here especially at night. This is evident with the stretch of customers sitting alongside the road waiting to be seated for their takeaways. We would highly recommend the beef cheese roti john. We have never failed to order this every single time we are here.

Filled with minced beef and egg, plastered with oozing cheese, and topping it all off with nacho cheese, it is mouth-watering. Those who have tried would know what we're talking about. So don't miss out on this the next time you get here!

Directly opposite KGC lies the OG of tea making, Bhai Sarbat. Often seen with never-ending long queues, Bhai Sarbat Teh has been there for a long time and will continue to serve its loyal customers, for sure. Get your hands on the food from KGC and the from Sarbat and you’re in for a good time. So, what are you waiting for tonight? Go for it!

Located in the secluded industrial area of Woodlands, lies an establishment - multiple food stalls with a variety of food to offer. This place is a go-to for most north-siders. Al-Ameen has a few stalls around the island but this one can accommodate many customers with its vast seating arrangements.

Not forgetting their famed Ice-Kacang, a sinful dessert to give oneself up to, at night. Along with the variety of different cuisines, there's something for everyone to indulge on.

5. R.K. Eating House

If you live near Serangoon Gardens and want a change in taste from tze char from Chomp Chomp, well… just cross the street! Located directly opposite Chomp Chomp Food Centre, RK is a 24-hour establishment known to serve many party-goers and supper kakis late at night.

Of all the sinful treats here, we would highly recommend the Prata Banjir (Flooded Prata) whenever you come here. As the name suggests, this combination of crispy prata flooded with your preferred curry, two half-boiled eggs, and some sambal at the side will never fail to amaze. We shall stop here because once you’ve tried it, you would not need any further explanation.

6. Srisun Express

Many have established that R.K. Eating House is a competitor to Srisun Express. Pick your sides.

It’s either Srisun Express or R.K. Eating House, there's no in-between. One thing that stands out for Srisun Express is the tower of drinks! Instead of ordering a personal beverage, you can order a tower of Milo for example, and share it amongst your friends and family members. Maybe inspired by the tower of beers found in bars, this act of sharing will increase the camaraderie with your companions. However, we don't think that it is appropriate for you to YAM SENG here though.

7. Ayza’s Restaurant

Also, if you're lucky, there's an uncle that will still be selling rojak during the wee hours of the night! As not many places are opened 24 hours, Ayza's Restaurant is one of the many food establishments or supper places that can be found in the west area if you're for one to fill your stomach!

Located in the East, hidden amongst the HDBs in Tampines lies a 24-hr Indian Cuisine stall that offers undeniably one of the best Nasi Briyani in Singapore. Served on a sweet-scented Banana Leaf, ample amount of rice with savory beef or chicken, and the spices that amplify the flavors of the Nasi Briyani. Not forgetting the Teh/Kopi that you were yearning for, a perfect combination to end your night.

Chilling at cafes is fine, worth the money spent with the ambiance that sets the mood right and services offered are fantastic, but sometimes Kopitiam offers the same outcome as top-tier cafes but the advantages are set well obvious - the price. Not only that, cafes rarely operate till' late at night, unlike these coffee shops.

Now you won't need to overstretch yourself just to find decent coffee shops to unwind during the wee hours.
