Walking into Queenstown's newly opened Margaret Market, it's difficult not to experience a rush of enthusiasm.

This new lifestyle destination aims to combine the old and the new, with a rebuilt facility that retains the essence of its former incarnation, the Commonwealth Avenue Wet Market & Food Centre, while also presenting a fresh, modern perspective.

The Margaret Market structure was formerly the Commonwealth Avenue Wet Market. It was one of Singapore's first covered market and food centres, having opened on October 23, 1960.

It is also the last market building constructed by the Singapore Improvement Trust, the predecessor to the Housing and Development Board.

What was once a conventional wet market has evolved into a thriving community hub that supports local companies, home bakers, chefs, and first-time sellers.

The culinary options are varied. From Urban Folks' exquisite Australian-inspired Jaffles and DIY acai bowls to The Homme Baker's handcrafted cakes and the chic bistro bar Margie, which serves local tacos and caters to the night-time crowd.

At one end, next to the entrance, is the South Korean convenience shop chain Emart24. It not only sells snacks and drinks, but it also has a hot food counter. For dinner, get a box of Dak Gang Jung (boneless fried chicken) or a Kimchi Fried Rice Bowl, and then finish with Bingsu for dessert.

Food stores line the perimeter of Margaret Market, with seats in the center.

Ya Kun requires no introduction. Ya Kun, known for their classic local morning delights, continues to enchant with their time-honored recipes on Margaret Market's second level.

Ya Kun gives comfort in every bite, whether it's the kaya toast with luscious coconut jam, the soft-boiled eggs, or the powerfully flavored local coffee.

Fung Onn Medical Hall, a Chinese medicine business, is also on the second floor of Margaret Market. It moved from its old position at Tanglin Halt to Margaret Market.

Other tenants include a barbershop and Gymm Boxx, a 24-hour open-space gym. Bethesda Medical, a medical clinic, is also getting ready to open.

Address: 38 Margaret Dr, Singapore 141038

Opening Hours: Daily (7am – 12am)
