The PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay may be the first huge hotel to open in 2020. Although the property is not entirely new (it was formerly the Marina Mandarin Singapore), the overall feel is a significant departure from the hotel's Meritus days. This upscale hotel now sports a calming, warm tone as well as an inviting garden theme under the PARKROYAL COLLECTION branding.

The hotel has a grand driveway and a couple of parking lots in front of the entrance that is first come first served. If not, you can park in the Marina Square parking lot. Guests have access to free parking.

A high wall filled with hanging plants serves as a focal point in the ground floor reception area, while the bubble lifts that take guests up to the main lobby on the 4th floor provide glimpses of pavilions surrounded by lush greenery and an iconic hanging sculpture designed by the late architect John Portman.

The open atrium design of the surroundings will remind you of Pan Pacific Singapore. The interiors are appealing and inviting. When traveling between the ground floor and your room, the bubble lift adds to the ambiance by providing a view of the atrium.

Lifestyle Room

We stayed in the Lifestyle Room, which came with a city view. The Lifestyle Room will feature a more masculine version of the Muji design, with plenty of wood elements but a few shades darker. Japanese sensibilities can also be seen in the wooden wardrobe cabinet, which is partially see-through and styled in a crisscross pattern. Metal shards can also be found throughout the room, mostly as linings to highlight shapes. Sharp edges are clearly avoided in this composition. Curved edges can be found on everything from the bedside table to the working desk and even the surface of the wardrobe. The only hints of sharpness in the room are the ten or so decorative sticks embedded into the wall on top of the bed.

The presence of an alcove by the window is a feature of the Lifestyle Room that is not found in the other room categories. The daybed in the alcove provides an alternate lounge area during the day for neat freaks who absolutely will not sit or lie on their beds in clothes they wore outside. This alcove provides space for an additional family member to sleep in.

The bathroom featured an attached bathtub, marbled walls, and a large shower area. Melt toiletries are used, an Australian brand that can be found throughout Park Royal and Pan Pacific properties. The towels were of high quality and soft, possibly due to their newness.

Gym

The gym can be found on level 5, just off the main lobby. The gym also has a small area set aside for spin classes.

Swimming Pool

The mineral water used in this swimming pool is one of its main selling points. When compared to regular swimming pools, it is said to be less drying and milder for those with sensitive skin. It is also illuminated at night with 1380 fiber optic lights, which is quite impressive. The pool is open from 7 AM to 10 PM. You can find plenty of sunbeds on both sides of the pool.

The PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay is a must-see for design enthusiasts due to its unique interiors. Those looking for a city getaway will be spoiled for choice with the hotel's numerous dining options, spa facilities, and fairly extensive gym and pool.
