The name of this neighborhood was inspired by the geographical location of where it is situated. In the 90s, Tanjong Rhu used to be an industrial area for shipyards. “Tanjong” which is directly translated to “the end of the land” in Malay and “Rhu” is the informal term used to describe the Casuarina trees that grew in the area in the early days. Hence, Tanjong Rhu is described as the place where ships dock and are greeted with the nature-loving Casuarina trees. What’s left of it now can still be admired with the representation of the lone lookout tower overlooking the small water passage into Tanjong Rhu.

Tanjong Rhu Promenade is also an intersection point for a variety of sporting and recreational activities. This is great for those who are thinking of taking a stroll while enjoying the fresh air or an evening’s bike ride as the pathway will lead you to the water’s edge of Marina Reservoir and ends at Gardens by the Bay Moreover, Over-sea-ing the waters or crossing the Tanjong Rhu bridge, is the iconic National Stadium and Singapore Sports Hub which house the hopes of our Singaporean Athletes.
